Album Description

Circus is the seventh album by Britney Spears. It rolls into town on the heels of an MTV VMA awards sweep, where Britney walked away with three Moonmen awards for 'Video of the Year', 'Best Female' and 'Best Pop Video' for 'Piece Of Me'. Circus is the follow up to her critically well received album, Blackout, just in in time for her 27th birthday. The lead single, 'Womanizer' (produced by the up and coming Atlanta production team The Outsyders) has already created a frenzy amongst Britney fantaics, radio and the media alike-underscoring Britney's continued reign as one of the Queens of Pop.

Squint at the cover of Circus and it's easy to mistake Britney Spears for the flow-haired Jessica Simpson--an indication that the bold come-ons of 2007's Blackout, a commercial success but a critical letdown, may have given way to something softer and prettier. Don’t be fooled. Circus differs from Blackout in a number of ways, the most important being that 1) it keeps its ringmasters--i.e., its producers--in check instead of allowing them to run an overly sleek show, and 2) Brit brings it vocally here in a way she hasn’t since 2003’s In the Zone (check "Kill the Lights," on which she channels her mentor Madonna and the liquid-y "Blur"). Beyond that, Circus is, as its title promises, a Blackout-like spectacle. Which is not to say the songs being made under this particular big top aren't top quality. Those who pine for the pre-trainwreck Britney will warm to the suggestive but not outright slutty "Mmm Papi," and anyone who can't get enough of the embattled publicity magnet will eat up "Womanizer" and the title track. Spears--let's be honest--lacks acrobatic grace, at least under tabloid scrutiny. What's great about Circus is it proves she's still willing to jump through hoops to make likable, stylish music. --Tammy La Gorce

i Want To Go To The Spears Circus!!

Although I haven't received my Amazon purchase of this album in the mail yet, I am going to go ahead and review it because I bought the digital version of this album on Napster and I had it in my other laptop for a long time. The purchase occurred back in 2008, when the album had just been released.

Ok, this is a great album. I don't think I have the time to give my opinion on each track but all I can say is that all tracks are rated 10/10 by me and when I would listen to my digital copy of this album, I wouldn't skip one track, and I can't wait to get my first physical copy in the mail so I can ENJOY it! This is by far Brit's BEST studio album, in my opinion. That is one Circus show I would love to go to. Go Britney!!

Oh, boy ...

Hearing this CD was akin to listening to two rabid ferrets, in a box, fight each other to death during a nuclear holocaust. Woman has held up well, body-wise, considering her mom-of-two-kids status

How many comebacks is she gonna have?

A KID'S REVIEW:

I don't care but keep them coming! Last years Blackout (to me) was a really bad CD. It had a few good songs here and there, but it just wasn't something I'd expected coming from Britney. It was very dark and edgier than anything she'd ever released, and it didn't work for me. So now, 1 year later, we have Circus. And Britney is (almost) back to being her regular self. From the sweet ballad of Unusual You, to the pop track Circus, this album delivers. I (like many people) have noticed that this album is reflects off of Britney's life. Circus talks about how her life is literally a circus right now, Out From Under chronicals the end of her relationship with Kevin, Kill The Lights is about the harrassing paparazzi, Mmm Papi is (maybe) about her relationship with Adnan, and My Baby is a horrible ballad about her babies.

With those tracks also comes other good songs. Womanizer was a great pop song, If U Seek Amy is a song that is constantly stuck in my head, Unusual You (which is a ballad) is about finding unexpected love, and Lace And Leather is just a fun little pop song. The three bonus tracks (Phonography, Rock Me In, and Amnesia) are all great too. I actually wasn't going to pick this up (because of Blackout), but I'm glad I did, because this album rocks!

Womanizer (4/5) - Good song. After a while it gets repetitive, but the first time you hear it you will probably fall in love with it.

Circus (4/5) - I'll never forget the first time I heard this song. I had it on repeat on my iPod for weeks. But after you've listened to it a lot, you start to realize the flaws thit song has.

Out From Under (5/5) - A very emotional song. It chronicals the end of her and Kevin's relationship. This song actually shows that Britney can (still) sing.

Kill The Lights (5/5) - Another good song about the paparazzi. It kinda reminds me of Piece Of Me, but it's still good. It's a continuation of Break the Ice.

Shattered Glass (3/5) - This song is very dark. I think it's also about Kevin, but I can't be for sure. Not much to say about it really.

If U Seek Amy (5/5) - Try saying that 5 times fast. This is a very fun pop song. Definitely one of my favorites off of the album. It has a fun, pop(py) sound to it.

Unusual You (5/5) - Another great song. It's the best ballad she's ever sang. It's really very sweet, once you hear it you will instantly fall in love with it.

Blur (2/5) - Thought to be a sequal to Early Mornin' (In the Zone era), It is about waking up dazed and confused, hungover in someone else's house, etc. It didn't really work well with me.

Mmm Papi (1/5) - Worst track off the album. She tries to come off sexy here (like Blackout) but fails miserably, and it comes off with her sounding like a weirdo.

Mannequin (4/5) - It took a few listens, but I really like this song, though she sounds like a robot in it, and it's hard to understand what she is saying. But that doesn't matter, because this was meant to be a dance song, and she did it perfectly.

Lace And Leather (3/5) - She definitely comes off sexy here! Though not one of my favorites, it's still good. It kind of reminds me of a more adult version of ...Baby One More Time.

My Baby (1.5/5) - She treis to be sweet here and sings about her sons, but fails. It just doesn't have the same feeling that Someday gave me.

Rock Me In (4/5) - Again, it took a few listens, but I really like it. It's very europop sounding, and it sounds great.

Phonography (5/5) - My personal favorite song (off the whole album). It really makes you wanna get up and dance.

Amnesia (3/5) - I don't know why people like this song so much. It's o.k., but definitely not something I would listen to over and over. It reminds me of her younger days, like maybe Oops! I like the bonus track Trouble better.

(other bonus tracks not on the album)

Trouble (5/5) - My favorite bonus track. I can see why they didn't release it on the standard album, her voice is too digitalized on it, while the album shows (kind of) her real voice.

Quicksand (5/5) - A really good ballad. Her voice sounds really good in it. I recommend going onto Youtube and listening to it. Lady Gaga wrote it for her.

Rock Boy (0/5) - Horrible. I'm really glad they didn't release it. It's just not Britney sound(ish).

And that's about it. The album also comes with a two-sided poster, and a DVD with the Womanizer video (director's cut), a making of the album, and a photo gallery. Overall, this was a great album and I'm glad I spent my money on it.

She did it again

I've been a Brit fan for a long time and even though I fell off listening to her music for a few years I decided to buy this album and I'm so glad I did. I love it! After listening to any album through a good amount of times, you start having favorites and even though I do I hardly ever fast forward through any songs here. The shipment was quick, nothing was wrong with the product and I still enjoy it! It comes with a little poster which I put on the wall =) I think there's a good mix of dancey-pop songs, a couple mellow ones, and the other few that go into an album.
