BRITNEY SPEARS

Debbie Gibson never recorded anything as sexy as Britney Spears's white-funk smoker "...Baby One More Time." Unfortunately, neither does the 17-year-old Spears's debut album contain anything else that remotely approaches that instant hit single. A few of the disc's cuts are pleasantly catchy, but too much of its space is given over to icky ballads ("E-Mail My Heart"?) and other unconvincing moves such as the dancehall-lite "Soda Pop." --Rickey Wright
I recently got this Single (...Baby One More Time) in the mail, and was very pleased with the CD. I thought the single could have used a remix track or something though. This is definitely for any Britney Collector, or just a really good fan. I enjoyed this CD a lot!
I'm a 21 year old homosexual. If you are around my age, and old enough to remember the whole teen pop wars of the mid 90's to early 2000's, then the name Britney Spears isn't synonymous with tabloids and baldness. At least, much less so than her name was attributed to 'biggest' and 'most popular' of the group. Christina Aguilera was too pale (and too showy), Mandy Moore.. no thanks.. and you already had Backstreet Boys and N'Sync canceling each other out. All you had left was the sweet, cutesy, and slightly sexual music and image of Spears.
She wasn't the greatest singer, and any physical assets of hers would only matter while you wiggled the weasel to her music videos, but the producers who worked on her first album were definitely not rookies. Max Martin had already proven successful with a number of other hits, it was only logic to pair him up with newcomer Spears. She wanted to sing about being desirable, loving you, being loved back, being driven crazy but in a 'good way,' etc.
The reason all of this means a 4 star review, truly depends on nostalgia factor, and if you can enjoy catchy music for being catchy music. Which most of this album is very catchy. Even after not having heard this album in almost 10 years, I can remember more than half of the songs. That's more than you can say for Cher's 90's output.
I suggest this album most to other gay men like myself who have a WIDE taste in music (I'm normally an indie fan, but not so snobbish as to diss a good hook, again), any girls who were alive through this period and want to be reminded of how jealous they were of this skimpily dressed piece of jail bait.. and perhaps just to pull a prank on some goers of a college party. Blast this at full volume, all the loud and drunken frat brothers will be cheerily joining in the chorus. "MY LONELINESS.. *hic* IS KILLING ME" "BAYBAHHHH"
Thank you for your time.
Compared to her other CDs, this one may be the worst. However, it's symbolic. This CD opened the door and let the flood of teen pop-tarts to take over the music industry. Her 1998 hit, "...Baby One More Time", is enough to make this album great, and it defined a decade of music.
1. "...Baby One More Time" -- Great beat, great lyrics, great vocals, on pitch, and funky as who knows what. Great song to debut with.
5/5
2. "(You Drive Me) Crazy" -- Awesome song. This and the Stop! Remix are awesome jammer songs. The middle is great, good guitar sounds.
5/5
3. "Sometimes" -- Excellent summer song. Makes you feel like you're on the beach with your love. Sweet song.
5/5
4. "Soda Pop" -- Good beat, but it gets old after a while. Britney's vocals are great on this one, though.

10. "E-Mail My Heart" -- Sweet breakup song. Very emotional.

Great CD. Despite a few bad songs, it is great to listen to.
Great prize, it was so cheap. The shipping was fast too. My sister really wanted this and loved it.
*I Love This Album. I bought it because the cover is different from the one I have. When I got it for the first time back in 2000 It was the international version since I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina but I always wanted this one.
